Artist: LaRissa Rogers

A site-specific project that responds to the history of Zipporah Potter Atkins, who became the first Black woman to own a home in Boston in 1670.
As part of this project, Rogers hosted an Open Call for Soil – an invitation to Boston's communities to contribute soil from spaces meaningful to them. The collected soil is then used to create adobe bricks for the foundation of the sculpture honoring Zipporah Potter Atkins.

Artist: Ekua Holmes

A multi-site public artwork consisting of three large-scale sunflower installations throughout the urban park. This project is an extension of Holmes’ growing Roxbury Sunflower Project, which began in 2018 as a vision to use sunflowers to spread beauty and hope throughout the historically Black Boston neighborhood where the artist has lived since childhood.
